Missing Father
Hi,
I am searching for my Partners father - we have no information about him. No name, no location, no close family etc. He is a mystery!
My Partner Shannon did a DNA test on Ancestry and most of her closest relatives are 2x cousins and all have a root couple called Samuel McElhinney and Matilda Reilly in Derry
They had 11 children - I can confirm we don't come from about 5 of those due to the cousin rules.
There are 3 or 4 children where there is very little information on Ancestry and aren't connected to many peoples trees, let alone have descendants - so this is my main focus.
She also has DNA connections to a large family originating in Scotland - meaning to me, if i'm not wrong, that her direct ancestors must be linking the two together somewhere. But the closest and only DNA connection of anything to go on now lives in America, is suggested as 1st cousin 3x removed and her parents names are sketchy.
Anyway - the main couple I am searching in Derry have NO information on Ancestry, i have added everything on myself.
They are the Eldest daughter of Samuel McElhinney and Matilda Reilly called Ann / Annie Jane McElhinney who married Alexander Murray
They had 3x boys, Henry, Alexander (Lexie) and Norman.
Henry (1910 - 1941) spent his life as a compositor for the Londonderry Sentinel and had been there since he left school - he died aged 31 - from what I can tell by newspaper clippings - no children or wife.
Alexander (Known as Lexie) (1914 - ?) was in the H.A.A.R.A (Heavy Anti-Aircraft Royal Artillery) and served in India and Burma during WW2 - He was discharged from active duty in 1946, and applied for his medals in 1948 and received the 1939 - 1945 Burma medal.
Norman (1916 - ?) was in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and was captured as a prisoner of war prior to the evacuation of Dunkirk est. 18th May 1940 but was recorded as 9th June 1940 when he arrived at a camp in Poland. He spend the rest of the war in various camps between Poland and Germany and was in a working camp building Air Raid Shelters and working in a Sugar Factory.
He returned to Derry in 1945 and the street seemed to have held some sort of party for him along with one of the neighbours.
Alexander Murray (Father) died 5th September 1956 / Anne Jane Murray (Mother) died 21st May 1958
For Henry's death address, it was 36 Lower Nassau Street, Derry.
Alexander used that address for his medal claim.
Norman used this address for his Military address and was there at the party.
Alexander (Father) and Annie Jane both died at that address.
36 Lower Nassau St.
After this - it all goes cold - and I highly believe that this could be the branch that leads to my partner Shannon's Father.
I really hope someone is able to help in this case - she is 24, and doesn't have contact with her mum's family.
We have a beautiful 2 year old together, and really hope we can find his Grandad
Additional Note: Her Mum has no idea who her dad is - so we are literally having to find out strictly through records & DNA
any help that can be provided we would be eternally grateful for
