Military records

Which agency do I contact to try and get information from my 2nd gt grandfather military records when he was in the 15th Hussars please.

I don't have his service number.

I think he did Hussars training in Ballymena

Thanks

adele,

What was the name of your Gt grandfather and his approximate year of birth?

Military officers served in many parts of the British Empire.

Regards,

McCoy

Hi McCoy,

As far as I know he was just a general soldier/Hussars.

His name was William John Geoghan/Geoghegan, born 1815.

That's all the information i have other than he was born in Ballymore.

Edele,

Please see attached.

The National Archives in Dublin may be able to assist.

adele,

Please see attached. There may be a record in the British Archives in Kew.

adele,

Ballymore Heritage Group has details on William John Geoghan. Apparently,

he was transported to Tasmania in 1841.

Did you post this information, or did the Group?

Regards,

McCoy

Hi,

Thank you so much gor this.

Yes I knew he'd been transported to Tasmania.

I'm hoping that there'll be information on his service records with his parents names so I can track a bit more,  and maybe find more information of where he was born as there are no parish records.

Appreciate it. I'll have a look later today

Cheers
