Michael McGrath and family
I am trying to find more information on Michael McGrath and his family. Here is what I know,
November 1807 — Michael McGrath married Margaret Lawless at St. Patrick’s Parish in Kilkenny. I have the marriage record from St. Patrick’s Church in Kilkenny which I found through RootsIreland.ie
I located baptismal records for their children at the same church through RootsIrelan.ie as follows:
| Child | Baptized |
| Catherine | Dec 8, 1809 |
| Mary | Mar 17, 1812 |
| Edward | Jun 22, 1814 |
| Thomas | Feb 27, 1817 |
| Patrick | Feb 10, 1819 |
Michael is the father listed on each record. Margaret is explicitly named only on Patrick’s record, where she appears as Peggy Lawless.
I did find a Michael McGrath in Griffith’s Valuation occupying a farm in Kilkenny, St. Patrick’s Parish, Smithsland South Township in 1848-1850 but the baptism records say that they lived in Grovine (sp?).
I have traced his wife Margaret and his children Edward, Mary and Patrick to the United States. All of them ending up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA around 1850-1860.
I am trying to find out when and where Michael died. Whether he ever emigrated and what happened to his other two children Catherine and Thomas.
Finally, I believe he had a brother named John McGrath but I know almost nothing about him.
Brian McGrath
