Memorials of the Dead by Brian J Cantwell

Hello there! Does anyone have access the Brian J Cantwell's publication Memorials of the Dead and would be willing to look up some records for me?

I'm interested in entries for the following:

Bates - 62, 87, 93, 176, 188, 189, 300 and 435

Cockrill - 431

Darlington - 6, 34, 41, 72 and 179

Darlinton - 72

Many thanks!

Hi Liisa, I am looking at unanswered queries and it appears no one has a copy, you could try some of the private Facebook groups for the counties you are interested in, apply to join.

I had not come across the publication myself but I see it on safe for a hefty €69 here https://ifhs.ie/memorials-of-the-dead-the-collected-works-edited-by-bri…

The names are not common and I only came across Bates in Dublin and Darlington in Waterford but no guarantee those people did not just move there.

Good Luck

Thanks Pat for the follow-up.  My Bates' ancestors came to Canada from Inch-by-Gorey, County Wexford.  Still hopeful that someday I'll be able to track down info on the family prior to their move to Canada in 1827.  Hopeful!

Thanks again,

Liisa

Hello Liisa, I had a check for Bates in Wexford on Roots Ireland, most records were in New Ross and RC but one baptism of a Sarah Bates at Ashwood, Inch, father is George Bates and mother is Sarah, they are Church of Ireland and they mostly did not record the mothers name on baptisms. The baptism was 26 Sep 1813, there are  no other to that family 1800 to 1830, here is a list of the whereaabouts of the C of I parish registers and I see two INch places in Wexford, one set in local hands and the other may be in our National Archive but I thought any that survived were on Roots Ireland.

I also see a number of Bates baptised in Wicklow close to the Wexford county line, some parishes could be in two counties so a Bates may be baptised in WIcklow were the church is but live over the county line.

Here is a link to the civil divisions in Ireland but Ashwood does not appear in Inch so wonder if they were living in a house called Ashwood that would be well know. https://www.townlands.ie/ ;

Here is the link https://www.ireland.anglican.org/about/rcb-library/list-of-parish-regis…

About 40% plus were lost in the civil war in 1922 and that is why they are colour coded.

Good Luck
