McRoberts Moore

I descend from Wlliam John McRoberts Sr from Ballyoran, Dundonald, County Down, who married Anna Moore, daughter of Robert. William and Anna had ten known children and were flax farmers. William was the son of James McRoberts and Margaret McLean. They are all buried in St Catherine's Cemetery.

As the family resettled in the US, Canada, and Australia, the homestead (Ballyoran House) went to the fourth son, Francis Robert McRoberts, who stayed their until his death. The home then went to his oldest daughter who died in the early 1950s.

Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated.

Lynnmarie,

Francis Robert McRoberts married Agnes McKee on 1.2.1865 at Gilnahirk Presbyterian. She was from Killynether and her father Alexander Mckee was  a farmer.  This is Francis McRoberts’ family in 1901:

1911 census:

Edith Moody was probably born 21.11.1884 at Ballyoran. (There’s an un-named female born there then and it ties with her age on the census. Mother’s maiden name was McKee). If you want to search for the others you can do that on the irishgenealogy site:

Birth registration started in 1864.

Some probate abstracts taken from the PRONI wills site:

The above will is on-line on the PRONI site. He simply leaves everything to his wife Agnes.

Flour about £5 for 50lbs, butter 5s. per lb.... as a rule it used to cost for each meal for a horse from 20s. to 30s. So with a mob of 20 or so it used to cost a nice penny for feed and water alone ..."

PRONI’s name search has a John McRoberts of Ballyoran who died around 1814 (Probate was granted that year). The will itself was destroyed in the 1922 fire but it obviously tells you he had died.

Mention of your McRoberts on this site:

I believe these McRoberts who emigrated to Biddulph township in Ontario, Canada are also my McRoberts family. I descend from Mary McRoberts who married Thomas Henry Guest Mar 10, 1837 in London, Ontario, Canada. She is the daughter of William McRoberts who emigrated to Canada in 1830 with his parents & settled on the Townline, between London & Biddulph Townships. This is from the book "Langford, Westman and Related Families" Their History and Genealogy by J. Elizabeth Scheiding, published Toronto, Ontario, Canada 1999.

I would love to connect with you & compare information.
