McKeegan

CavanCastleterra (Cavan)Drumlane (Cavan)

My Great Grandfather Joseph McKeegan was born in Tullybuck townland in 1874.
His parents were Thomas McKeegan and Bridget McArdle married at Ballyhaise November 1860.
Bridget was born in Butlersbridge1841, her parents were Philip McArdle and Annie O'Connell.
Thomas was born in 1830 to Patrick McKeegan and Alice Ronalds. Older relatives said Thomas came from Armagh.
Thomas and Bridget's other children:
Mary 1861 Kilconny
Alice 1862 Munea
Annie 1864
Patrick 1867
Patt 1869 (known as John)
Bridget 1872
Urney , Butlersbridge and Drumlane are areas that they resided in.
Dominick McKeegan & Mary Martin were mentioned as Godparents . I think they might be related.
Thomas, Bridget and Dominick are in a few Petty session records. Other McKeegans, Patrick, John, Michael and James are mentioned along with them. I think they are all related in some way.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

You have done a lot of great research on your family. The subscription site Roots Ireland had different years of birth for Alice and Bridget. Did the family emigrate? I did not see them in the 1901 census and I did not see a possible death record for Thomas or Bridget.

Thank you. They moved to Glasgow around 1875. I located them through Census and Poor Law Records. Their lives were tragic. They moved around a lot.
My Great Grandfather Joseph moved to Clydebank to work in Singers Factory. He never kept in contact with his family. He had 10 children. His son Charles my Grandfather, ran away a few times to join the Army. Joseph along with his wife moved to the USA with 9 of their children. My Grandad met my Grandma and stayed behind.
