McKEE - ANTRIM/DOWN

My grandmother was ELSIE MCKEE, b 1892 in Belfast, Alloha St. Her parents were THOMAS MCKEE & ELIZABETH MCBROOM.
THOMAS was born in 1871 (38 Mellboune in Belfast). His father James Henry McKee (1837-1916), Mother was Elizabeth Carmichael. At some point, they lived on Charnwood.

THOMAS was born in 1871 (38 Mellboune in Belfast). His father James Henry McKee (1837-1916), Mother was Elizabeth Carmichael. At some point, they lived on Charnwood.

My grandmother, sister Ellen, and mother emigrated to Brooklyn, NY, in 1901, Her father came over a year earlier.

James Henry McKee and Elizabeth Carmichael had 7 children. Brothers Ferdinand and Robert emigrated to Brroklyn, Oldest brother David stayed and I have not confirmed the others yet. After Elizabeth died, James Henry remarried toJane Grogan and had 6 children. Several of the girls were teachers.

I believe James Henry Mckee's father was Ferdinand McKee.

I am making a genealogy trip to the Belfast area this month and would love to make contact with any "cousins" or people from area.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the long delay in getting back to you.

I hope someone with a connection to the family will be in touch. In the meantime, I wanted to invite you to add your ancestor's details to our XO Chronicles. You can learn more about it HERE and it might be another avenue to consider so that your ancestor's details can be seen by others.

Best wishes

Hello.  My first post.

My Gt Gt Grandfather on my paternal side was Thomas McKee. He married Margaret McDowell. Thomas was a brother of James Henry McKee. Parents Ferdinand McKee and Elizabeth McCarten. James H married Elizabeth Carmichaelt and they had at least 6 children. He later married Jane Grogan and they had at least 6 children together. They were married in St Enoch's Church Belfast in 1878. The family have strong connections to Belfast, Northern Ireland, but also to Greyabbey/Blackabbey and further back to Scotland. They were stonemasons, builders, bricklayers and carpenters. A number of the McKees from Belfast emigrated to Brooklyn New York, in the early 1900's. The name Ferdinand, unusual for that time period, runs throughout the family. Hoping to connect with others researching the McKee clan.

Ellen
