McInerney - O'Dea Family of Ballycally, Co Clare

Hi,

I am looking for information on my great-great-grandfather, John McInerney and his parents and any siblings.

I believe John was born c1844, in Rineanna, Co Clare. His parents were Patrick McInerney and Bridget O'Dea. He immigrated to Australia in 1862 onboard 'Ocean Empress' as a free settler. I believe he came from Ballycally as he named his property in NSW 'Bally Calla' after his hometown.

His  mother Bridget, born c1810, arrived in NSW in 1879 on "Blair Athol' and was sponsored by another son, Thomas. The father, Patrick, is believed to have stayed behind in Ireland and died c1874?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

In 1855 in Griffith's Valuation of Clare, the following Patrick of Ballycally was listed. You can see more at askaboutireland.ie

Using the Griffiths data which Patricia located, I searched the records for the RC parish of Newmarket-on-Fergus and located two baptismal records for children of Patrick McInerney and Bridget/Biddy O'Dea/Dea.

These records were located using the subscription site FindMyPast.ie

Michael McInerney was baptized September 24 1839 father Patrick mother Biddy Dea.

Thomas McInerney was baptized December 25 1847 father Patrick mother Biddy Odea

I did not find a baptismal record for John. You can manually try to search his record at this link https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0800?locale=en

I did not find a civil death record for Patrick McInerney.

The Clare County Library has a wonderful genealogy section. The baptismal records for the RC parish of Newmarket-on-Fergus were manually transcribed by Sheila Duddy. Your John was baptized May 1 1845. Here is the link to the actual page on the parish register  https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634764?locale=en#page/89/mode/1up  The record should be on the top of the left page.

There was also a Peggy McEnerny baptized January 12 1835 father Pat mother Bid O'Dea. Also an Anne baptized May 22 1856 father Pat mother Bridget O'Dea

There are scores of pubIic member trees on Ancestry for this family. Not sure if they are all accurate, but they are worth looking at.

Cathryn,

I found the baptism record for John on the clarelibrary.ie site. He was baptised on 1 May 1845, and the town land given for his and Thomas's record is Rhinana, John's parents are given as Patt McInerny and Biddy O'Dea.

Regards,

Carolyn

Thank you everyone for your information. It is greatly appreciated.
