McGuigans from Castleblanney

I have just recently begun my serach for family in Ireland. I do know my mom's family (McGuigan) came from Castleblanney. Unfortunately like many of my parents generation, they spoke little of their heritage and now that they are gone, this journey is going to be even tougher. Is there a way to narrrow down my search. It was James (Jock) McGuigan who initially left Ireland. I do have more, yet scant, information on my Ancestry.com page. What information would help me narrow my search? Any help is muchly appreciated... Jerry

Hello Roger,

I am so sorry I haven't replied to your information you sent me.  My wife is going through her second occurance of ovarian cancer and we have been slightly pre-occupied to say the least.  Please don't take my lack of reply as non-interest or just casual curiosity.   I am very pationalte about finding any remaining family and hopefully plan a trip to meet them and see first hand where my family lived.  By next week, things should quiet down for us and I will be in a better position to delve back into my search.  I have a family tree partially done on Ancenstry.ca which contains some of the information you further requested.  I will be posting that information next week and I so look forward to working with you and your amazing organization to help me connect to my roots.  Take care.....

Hi Jerry

I hope your wife recovered well from the bastard that is cancer, and I hope you are keeping safe during this terribly uncertain time.

I realise I have found this post some 5 years later however I am a McGuigan, from very nearly Castle Blaney no less (Tullyrahan). I wonder how closely (or indeed how distantly!) we're related.

I was actually raised in London, it was my maternal grandparents whom brought the McGuigan name over to England from Monaghan, during the 50s when work dried up in Ireland. One of my Auntie's built her home around the one-room out-house my Grandfather grew up in with his 11 siblings. We visit often and while unfortunately I have attended far too many Irish funerals; we still have some connection to many of the 80+ band of McGuigan cousins still around the area.

If I'm not too late, I'd be fascinated to collect some more information from you, perhaps put you in touch with my Aunt who has a brain full of McGuigan history, and we can work together to connect the dots?

Best wishes and hope to hear from you,

Imogen McGuigan

Hi Imogen,

I realize this is now 2022 and even farther of a stretch but I feel like me seeing this post was meant to be.  I am actually Jerry's niece, Kelly.  Oddly enough Jerry and I were just discussing McGuigan family history to prep for my upcoming trip to Ireland this Friday, and I googled "McGuigans in Castleblayney" and I saw my uncles post from 2016.  When I mentioned your post from 2020 he said he hadn't seen it but to try replying.  My husband and I are planning to go to Castleblayney on the tail end of our trip, would love to connect!

Thanks,

Kelly
