McGlinn family of Donegal

Looking for any information about Patrick McGlinn, County Donegal who was 77 at the time of the 1901 census. His occupation is stated as farmer and on the record the far right column states that he is a Lunatic. Would you have any records which can tell me a little bit about him? When he married Mary Carlin in 1870 he worked as a Bucher (? Butcher). He had children - James, Patrick, "Mickey" and Bartley.

I have a baptism record for Patrick McGlin whose father was John, which co-relates to the information on his marriage record to Mary Carlin in 1870.

I know it's a "long shot" but I thought I would ask.

Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out!

Roots Ireland also had baptismal records for four more children  John 1871 Mary 1874 Anne 1875 Bridget 1880

I was not able to find a baptismal record for a Patrick McGlinn with father John back in the 1830 timeframe.

Thanks very much Roger!  Obviously, I didn't find the others because I didn't look for them elsewhere!!  At the time of the 1901 census the girls had probably "flown the coup"!!

Also, what's the best way to search for the name McGlinn - I have seen it as McGlyn, McGlynn, McGlinn and McGlin - would McG*n do it?

I guess it depends on the site that you are using. I think Roots Ireland would pick up McGlynn McGlyn McGlin when you enter McGlinn. Other sites may have tighter rules e.g the census site is very tight on alternative surnames.

Hi I'm new to this. My mother's ancestors were Mcglinn. We have a John Mcglinn who married a Catherine Ready in 1851 in Blackburn Lancashire. John's father was Michael Mcglinn. I'm looking for Mcglinn and Ready families. My Dna test shows we have ancestors around North Mayo and Connacht. Probably a long shot, but we keep trying.
