Patricia, It looks like James Sr. arrived in NY in 1890, Im tryin to confirm if he had a son born in Brookly James A. Jr. So it looks like he was born after Jas A. Sr. emigrated

jimmcenerney5@gmail.com

are there any details on Patrick McEnerney and Mary Kate Reilly McEnerney? Also, My Irish friends tell me the McEnerney Clan is typically from County Clare?

jimmcenerney5@gmail.com

Per RootsIreland (paid subscription) Patrick and Mary had three other children- Mary 1862, Pat 1867, and Ellen 1874.

This is amazing help folks......thank you so much....however, I have just begun.My work on Ancestry with the McEnerney and my moms family the Lynch's  in the states I feel is correct. Now I want to work on my heritage before emigration. I need this help to insure I dont go down the wrong line of heritage.You are invaluable!!

So my grandfather, James Alyoisus McEnerney Jr. born in the States in 1900.

Im attempting to confirm his father, my great grandfather James Alyoisus McEnerney Sr., Birth 20 JUN 1869 • County Caven is actually the correct person in my family. I show James Sr. wife was Mary Lee

born :22 Jul 1865 Clonseady, Magheracloone, Carrickmacross, Monaghan. Earlier I believe Eileen offered me details on what I believe to be James Sr. father Patrick, however, it shows his birth date of 1867. So not sure if this is the correct

jimmcenerney5@gmail.com

To clarify the two records I provided above from Ancestry 1900 Census and Death record are not connected to your family. James was not a carpenter.

mtvrdk@gmail.com

Hold on, Eileen I just noticed your info on Patrick in 1867 looks like that is Patrick and Mary Reily McEnerney's son. did they also have a son James Alyoisus McEnerney, born Jun 20 1869?

jimmcenerney5@gmail.com

Can we confirm that Patirck and Mary Kate Reilly McEnerney are the parents of James Alyoisus McEnerney?

jimmcenerney5@gmail.com

So your first message confirms that a James had parents Patrick M and Mary Reilly. The question is if this is your James? The death record above suggests parents James and Catherine??

mtvrdk@gmail.com

Thanks Mary, Yes, that is the question, are Patrick McEnerney and Mary Reilly McEnerney are the parents of my great gandfather James Alyoisus McEnerney?

jimmcenerney5@gmail.com

Can you confirm the two Ancestry documents 1900 census and Death record I provided above are not your family??

mtvrdk@gmail.com

Hi Mary, Yes I have that as our Family in the 1900 Census. At that point the had daughter Catherine Agnes "Kate" and James Alyoisus Jr. 2 other children, John J. born 1903 and Eugene Frances in 1905. I have Patrick and Mary Kate Reilly as James Sr. parents on ancestry and before I go any further with Patrick, I need to confirm he is the correct parent of James Sr.

jimmcenerney5@gmail.com

Based on James' death record in 1907, I shared above, his parents were James and Catherine.

I wish you well in your research.

mtvrdk@gmail.com

Thank you Mary TV, and Eileen and Patricia.....you all are wonderful

jimmcenerney5@gmail.com

Eileen and Mary TV, .....First I apologize for causing head aches for you folks, however as I research deep in to Ireland relatives I want to avoid going down the wrong path.........so, still attempting to confirm My Great Grandfathers parents. First thank you Eileen for you info sent onTuesday, 20 Jan 2026, 19:54 detailing the parents of James Alyoisus McEnerney ast Patrick and Mary "Reily" McEnerney. After reviewing what you each of you sent me there are some discrepancies with make it difficult to know which research is correct:

Eileen: James McEnerney born June 20th 1869 Castlerahan, County Cavan to Patrick and Mary "Reily" McEnerney

Mary TV: James (last name spelled differently) McIneirney being born July 1968 in Ireland to James and Catherine McEnearney (diff spelling)

How do I confirm the correct Parents of James Alyoisus McEnerney as Patrick and Mary or James and Catherine? Mary TV you had said the death record confirm the parents to be James and Catherine, however, the other document you shared shows their children are James and Catherine? So not sure what is correct. I truly appreciate your patience with me. Bless you!

jimmcenerney5@gmail.com

Hi,

You provided the same birth record Eileen provided who along with Patricia has done an amazing job researching your family based on the info you provided.

I provided the 1900 census above that included his children who were Catherine and James. You pointed out he had additional children John and Eugene, whose birth record shows father carpenter.

What I question is if your James, a carpenter, who died in 1907 (He was born abt.1869, you had 1968 above) whose parents were James and Catherine (provided record above) why you are focused on Patrick and Mary Reilly. There are many variations of the same name. You might want to contact the New York Archives to make sure the names were transcribed correctly.

Just a thought- Mary

mtvrdk@gmail.com

Thanks Mary, Im sorry, the second doc you sent 1900 Census showed July 1868. You are correct, James A McEnerney Sr. and Mary Lee McEnerney had two more children John and Eugene.

I am focused on Parick and Mary Reilly as the parents.because that was offered by Eileen. Her docs show that Patrick and Mary had a son James born Jun 20 1869 However, you offered from Ancestry, showed James and Catherine as James's parents, and the second doc, 1900 census showed first 2 children as James and Catherine and it just seems like an odd coincidence is all and one of the docs mistated and confused parents with the children. It caused me to question. I dont know maybe that is not odd.

jimmcenerney5@gmail.com

All I can suggest that you contact New York state to see James 1907 original death record. The one I presented was transcribed by Ancestry, from the original.

Not all trees on Ancestry are correct.

Remember Eileen presented the documents because your first message stated they were his parents.

Regards- Mary

mtvrdk@gmail.com

By the way many times in Ireland children were named after grandparents.

mtvrdk@gmail.com

Good advice ..ahhh I was wondering cause in the states it is tradition typically to name the first son after the father.
