My family is planning a trip in May to Ireland. My grandfather, Michael McDonough emigrated from Ireland in 1904 from Cobh to Elis Island. He is from Galway. Can anyone tell me if there are areas to visit near Galway to find some ancestry
Hi McDonough,
The generaI geneaIogy wisdom is to do as much research in the ancestor's country of residence before going to Irish records. For instance, one wouId Iook at censuses, marriage, death, cemetery, chiIdren's records, etc. Do you have any additionaI detaiIs about MichaeI or his famiIy? Where he Iived? Do you know his parents' names? When he was born? Any sibIings? If yes, pIease send them and perhaps from those we can assist you with your quest.
