Hi Veronica,

Thank you for your message.

Do you know what parishes in Armagh Bridget and John were born in? Unfortunately, it may be difficult to find information without a more specific place of origin. Most Irish record sources- church records, land records, census records- are based on specific locations. Until you know a specific location within Ireland, preferably a parish or placename, it may be difficult to do anything more with these records. If you knew what parish it would make your search much easier.

Do you have their marriage certificate? Sometimes these can give some information on place of origin or the families of the couple.

There are some places where you can search online, however it may be difficult to discern whether the results are relevant to your family or not without more information:

www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.

www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.

It may be an idea to contact Armagh Ancestry for some assistance, however a fee may apply. Here is their email:

researcher@armagh.gov.uk

In the meantime here are some websites that you may find useful:

The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/

The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm

Genealogy links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/armagh/index.html

Remember to post any new information that you find here especially concerning parish of origin. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.  If you do not know the parish of origin I suggest you post this message to the County Armagh page where volunteers in the area will be more likely to see it:

Hi Veronica,

Not sure if you are still searching and if we have the same Great grandparents.

My Three great grandparents migrated to Australia from Armagh 1857 on the Castilian.

Thomas Oliver (age 38) and Elizabeth Haughian (age 34) with their 15-year-old daughter Bridget Haughian spelt Houghian (my twice great grandmother).

Not sure if it is the same, but on the chance, they are the ones you are looking for I would love to hear back from you.

Regards,

Andrew
