Hi Kath, I am not keeeping up as there is a lot of other stuff going on here, I have revisited the data and I think Shortstone is probably a cousins family as there are often the same names used for children to honour the partcular parent or grandparent etc. I am trying to stick to the paper trail and have looked up the following which is on Irish Genealogy.
Alice O'Neill had 3 children, Henry; James and Ellen. Ellen was registered on 5th September 1876 (her baptism might show her actual birth date if she was born somewhat earlier as there was a fine for not registering in timely manner). Her poor mother Alice died in the 4th Quarter of 1876 but the certifiate is not currently available to see, this may be rectified shortly. Ellens registration of birth is interesting as the father is John but she was registered by james who is listed as the occupier, I take this to be the perso in control of the place she was born in Monascreebe, the person who owned or rented the land. So probably James worked for his father on the farm and lived there too.
I also searched for the death of James and found two for Monascreebe, interesting for two reasons, one was a James in 1892 aged 59 who died n Monascreebe and he was a batchelor, his sister Bridget McGinn was present at death in Monascreebe. Could he be Johns brother and now you alos have a sister.
The next James McArdle is in my view the daddy of them all James died 1881 in Monascreebe a widower and a farmer, present at death is a Dominic Rodgers I think but no relationship noted. He is listed as 83 years so born in 1798.
I attach the two certificates. Sorry for the variant spelling of Monascreebe.
Regards
Pat
