Maughanaclea Crowleys
Hello again, I was here briefly last year looking for help to find Hannah Cicelia Crowley who stayed behind in the Bantry area when the rest of her family emigrated to New Zealand. With help from some of you at the time I learned that she was born at Maughanaclea in 1890 and married Michael McCarthy from Gortnakilla, Kilcrohane, at Kealkill in September1923.
From using the resource suggested - irishgenealogy.ie - it appears that there were no children from the marriage. And it seems Micheal McCarthy died August 17 1947 at Kealkill. And I think Hannah died March 21 1966 at Inchintaggart.
I am however still struggling to find details of the death of Hannah's father, and my husbands great grandfather, Jeremiah Crowley. As best as I can tell hewas born late in 1856 to Andrew Crowley and Hanora McCarthy. The birth is recorded as "Crawley".
Jeremiah married Catherine (Kate) Murphy at her fathers residence in February 1879. His father is recorded as Andrew Crowley and her father as Patrick Murphy. Tragically after giving birth to 8 children Kate died giving birth to the 9th, John, in September 1892
After trawling through all the Jeremiah Crowleys looking for someone whose date of death and age at that time matches 1856 when our Jeremiah was born I have only 2 candidates. One diedin 1892 a few months before Kate died delivering John(Cork) which would have left the children orphaned and the other died as an elderly gent of 93 in 1945 (Killarney). And so I am a bit stuck. Any advice on how to proceed would be welcome.
We are travelling to Ireland in August and plan to spend a few days in the Bantry area visiting the places the family are from. We have made contact with Dympna and Johnny Crowley and will be staying with them for part of our visit.
Thanks in advance for reading my message and for any assistance you are able to provide.
Regards
Carol
