Mary O'Gorman (1803-1869) and Reuben Boyd (1790-1820)

Im trying to find some (any) information on a Mary OGorman who married Reuben Boyd in Ireland (no idea where). Mary was born in 1803 in Ireland and died in 1869 in Arkansas USA. She went to USA some time after Reuben died in 1820 (he was born in 1790 but not sure where). At least, this is the information I have been given.

A descendant of this Mary OGorman, has a distant DNA match to me so Im trying to find where we have common ancestors. Im wondering if she could possibly be a grandmother or aunty to my Mary Ann OGorman who was baptised in August 1830 and recorded in Kilmaley RC parish in Co Clare. My Mary Anns parents were John OGorman and Bridget Cassidy from Ennis in Co Clare (I think!).

Not much to go on, Im afraid, but youve amazed me in the past with what you found for me so Im hoping you can weave your magic again!! Thank you very much for at least trying.

Many thanks for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board.  I think that with the early dates, you will most likely need to look at gravestones, land records and other documents to try to tie your ancestors to a particular area.  You mentioned Kilmaley as a possible parish.  The Clare Library website may be a very good place to start.  Boyd was not a common surname in County Clare, although there was a Boyd family in the mid-1800s in Tulla and another one in Ogonnelloe.  It may be that Reuben Boyd was born outside of Clare and that he and Mary O'Gorman married in Clare or elsewhere. 

You might consider creating an Ancestor profile for Mary O'Gorman and Reuben Boyd on the XO Chronicles.  These profiles are widely read and others may be researching the same family names.  If you have any further questions or need more help, please let us know.

Reuben died intestate...no will. These letters are Mary trying to straighten this out.
