Marriage records for Holmes
Please can anyone help me?
I have the following marriage records from the Ireland Diocesan Prerogative Marriage License bonds 1623-1866
- William HOLMES and Margaret ROSS 1834
- John HOLMES and Maria RODDY 1836
- Richard HOLMES and Alice HOLMES 1838
William HOLMES and Margaret ROSS are my 2 x gt grandparents. From his autobiography I know that they married in Navan on 15 October 1834, and that they were both aged 20. His parents were in Slane, and hers in England, so a prominent local identity gave them permission.
I would like to know if there are any details available e.g of parents names? I am trying to verify that these three men are brothers.
There is something questionable about the marriage of Richard and Alice. Richard married Alice INGELBY (a Widow) on 17 June 1836 by licence in St Peters, Liverpool, then they went to live in Slane. Both Richard and Alice had been born at Slane Castle. Was that marriage not recognised in Co Meath, and they had to marry again?
I live in Australia and can't personally investigate, so I will be very grateful for any help. William eventually went to Australia and on to New Zealand, Richard went to Lancashire, England, and John and Maria went to America.
