Margaret Quinlan O'Meara/Meara

Hi I am trying to find where my ancestor Margaret Quinlan Meara(1825-1902) was buried and who her parents are. I believe she may be the niece to my 4x great grandfather Tim Quinlan (abt. 1784-1827). I have searched the cemeteries in the Clonoutly area with no luck. Also I have looked everywhere for the name of her parents. She did marry James O'meara. DNA cousins have her parents as John and Sarah Bryne Quinlan. Sarah died in 1815, so this is physically impossible (I don't have this verified though). Her name is in my 2x gr. grandmother bible with only her name and the name of her husband. I have her death record below and have attached the 1901 census. She was living with her son John O'Meara.

I would love to find her grave. I am visiting Co. Tipperary in two weeks. I found Tim Quinlan's headstone in Killian Cemetery.

thank-you in advance for any clues,

Debbie Colson

I think part of my message got cut off above. DNA Cousins have her parents as John and Sarah Byrne Quinlan. We believe Sarah died in 1815 (not verified), so this would be impossible. Also, Margaret's name is in my 2x grandmother bible with her name and husband's name; no other info.

Debbie,

I know this doesn't answer your question. I found this gravesite on Historicgraves. Could this grave be for your James' father?

Please keep in mind it is quite possible that Margaret was born earlier than 1825.  Ages in various records can vary widely. Birthdays were not celebrated in Ireland, people often did not know when they were born.

Hi Debbie,

I took a look at the 1901 census page you provided. Two things caught my eye.

First, Margaret is said to be only 14 years older than her son, John. Possible, but not common.  The John in the 1901 census is in his sixties, whereas the John baptized in 1849 would have been 51 not 62. Now, as mentioned above, ages can be all over the place in old records.

The second thing that I noticed was John's aunt was Ellen Morrissey, who was single.  If she was his father's sister, her surname would have been Meara. If she was his mother, Margaret's, sister, her name should have been Quinlan, no?  SO, are you sure you have located the correct Margaret Meara?

Debbie,

A tree on Ancestry suggests that this is Ellen found on the 1901 Census. Maybe she was a cousin of Margaret? Boherlahan and Nenagh is about 50.1 km apart, 48 minutes driving

In the 1926 Census there are a James and John living in Rockview. I checked James' marriage to Winifred in 1903, and his father's name was Rody. Rody died in 1901, a widower. So not the father of the John mentioned in the 1901 Census above.

Thank-you Mary. It could possibly James O'Meara father's grave.

I will look into Ellen Morrissy also. I have some DNA Morrissy cousins.

These are good leads.

thank-you do much Mary,

Debbie

Hi Patricia,

Thanks for the additional information.

Your questions are good ones about Ellen Morrissey and also if I have the right Margaret Meara. This Margaret who died in 1902 is on quite a few of my DNA cousins' trees. I will definitely have a look at all of this.

thank-you for your help,

Debbie
