Margaret McDonald/McDonnell
Hi,
I found my gg grandmother's death certificate. Her parents are given as James and Margaret McDonald. DNA matches have given me evidence to believe that her mother was Margaret Scanlon. Margaret's death certificate says she was born in 1823. I believe she may have actually been born in 1813. I found a baptismal record St Finbarr's South, Cork city, Cork, Ireland, 1813,baptized same day as birth. Roman Catholic. Sponsors: John Scanlan and Joan Scanlan. I am wondering if John and Joan Scanlan could be the siblings of her mother.
Margaret immigrated in about 1844, It seems she was rebaptized in NYC prior to her marriage to my gg grandfather, Timothy Harrington. I'm assuming she could not document her baptism. Her sister Bridget immigrated in about 1847 according to her death certificate but other records seem to indicate 14 Jun 1851 to New York City.
I know that Margaret McDonald/McDonnell had sisters: Bridget McDonald born about 1817 and died at her sister Margaret's residence in Manhattan, New York on 16 Feb 1872. Bridget's death certificate indicates that she never married. DNA and the 1855 census tie her to her sister Ellen McDonnell Bush(e) born about 1808, Baltimore, Cork (wife of Thomas Bush(e); their children Ellen and John are living with my gg grandparents). Also in the 1855 census is a sister, Mary (nee McDonnell) Ward (wife of George). She is found in the Ireland, Griffith’s Valuation, 1847-1864 with Thomas Bush(e). Ellen McDonnell is the Godmother of Mary Ward's daughter Anne, born 23 Apr 1823 (CR-RC-BA-245674, cork & ross.skibbereen (creagh and sullon).p4774.00340). I believe there may also have been a sister, Anne born about 12 Mar 1815.
Would any of this information be able to tie my gg grandmother's family together. Please let me know what other information I would need to provide.
All the best,
