Manning and Reidy - Shanagolden, Limerick area

Happy New Year.

It's a new year, same county Limerick, different pair of Catholic great great grandparents.

In Limerick, searching for baptism/birth and death of Joseph Manning and baptism/birth of his wife Honora Reidy great great grandparents on my mother’s side. Honora born about 1830, expect Joseph born in the 1820s. Of course, any other information you might come across.

I have Joseph Manning and Honora Reidy marriage at RC Kilcolman 30 July 1857. Witnesses John Nunan and Honora McGrath. Written above Joseph name “de Shanagolden” appears to be an afterthought. So possibly Shanagolden is Joseph’s home church and maybe Kilcolman is Honora’s home church.

Other information I have found.

Joseph’s mother was named Hanora. Source: Hanora Mannin(g) (grandmother) listed as informant on Joseph’s son James 28 Jan 1864 birth registration. I found probable death registration District Shanagolden, Union of Glin 23 Jan 1873. Honora Manning, 85, widow of labourer, townland Shanid. Informant Honora Manning. I found possible parents of Joseph needing further research, John Manning and Honora Kilmartin. Four daughters baptized at RC Shanagolden 1824-1833 and some baptism sponsors share a surname "Hartney" which some baptism sponsors of Joseph's children also share.

Joseph’s wife, Honora Manning nee Reidy is living with her son Patrick Manning (my great grandfather) and family in the 1901 and 1911 Census, Ballyane (Shanid, Limerick). In 1901, Hanora, widow, 70 was identified as Head of Family and in 1911, Hanorra, widow, 80 was identified as mother and her son Patrick was the Head of Family. Death registration for Nora Manning 2 Apr 1913. District Shanagolden, Union of Rathkeale. Widow of Labourer, 82, place of death Ballyann. Informant Nora Manning.

I found six children born to Joseph and Honora between 1860 and 1871. Birth registrations District Shanagolden, Union of Glin for four for the children born after 1864 and Baptisms at RC Shanagolden for five of the children. Ellen baptism 22 Apr 1860; Joseph baptism 18 Feb 1862; James birth 28 Jan 1864 and baptism 2 Feb 1864; William birth 25 Feb 1866 and baptism 28 Feb 1866; Mortimer birth 19 Apr 1867 and baptism not found; Patrick birth 21 Jan 1871 and baptism 3 Feb 1871.

For Ellen, Joseph, and William I have found no additional information beyond their births and/or baptisms. For Mortimer I found his death 4 Mar 1897, single, Labourer in the Rathkeale workhouse. I have found a lot of information for James 1864-1910 and my great grandfather Patrick 1871-1937 and their families.

As always, any assistance is much appreciated.

Bill
