Magner / O'Sullivan before mid-1800s

Hello,

Does anyone in the St. Finbars group have information about Magners or O'Sullivans from mid-1800s and earlier?

My great grandfather was Dr. Edward Magner (ABT1856-1938) who had a practice and other property on South Mall in Cork. His parents *might* have been William and Catharine Magner, but I've been unable to solidly confirm that. (They baptized *Edmond* Magnerin 1856, plus had other children namedthe same as my great-grandfather's siblings.)

His son Dr. William Owen Magner first married Elizabeth Redmond and then Una O'Sullivan just before emigrating to Canada. Her parents were Robert O'Sullivan and Anne Cosgrave, but again information about their parents is less certain.

I would be most grateful for tips or information to help more-solidly followmy lines back before the mid-1800s. I have pretty good information about Edward and some of the lines following him that I am happy to share.

Thanks for any help or ideas.

Pretty sure that's the same Edward and Mary on the 1901 census in Cork - she's born Co. Dublin, he's born Cork, along with their children, including William age 13 (c1888), so all seems to tie in to that 1856 Cork city, South Parish baptism you mentioned.

You probable already have this information, but just in case....I had a quick look at the address that Mary Anne Sullivan gave on her marriage in Thom's 1884 :

52 Gt Charles St, Dublin city - Timothy Daniel Sullivan, esq. M.P.

Mary Anne give's her father's name as 'Timothy D.'. Timothy was elected as Member of Parliament for Co. Westmeath in 1880. There are details of him online, but in summary he was at one time a Lord Mayor of Dublin city, a supporter of Charles Stewart Parnell, and later M.P. for Co. Donegal. He appears on the 1911 census at Belvidere Place in Dublin city, as a Journalist.

Thank you for the information about Dr. Edward Magner. My husband Colm Magner is also his great grandson. His grandfather Dr. William Magner moved to Toronto, Canada to head up pathology at St. Michael's Hospital. He also became President of the Canadian Medical Association. We would love to know more about anything you have learned about Dr. Edward Magner. There are many stories to tell, and Colm remembers his grandmother Una.  Margaret Magner.

Dr William Iwen Magner is my Grandfather.

He emigrated to Toronto, Canada, after his first wife died (he had 3 children with his first wife - 2 sons and one daughter), with his second wife he had 2 daughters and 2 sons.

Dr William Magner was at one time President of the Canadian Medical Association.

Hello, not sure if this site is still active. My deceased father Brian Mc Swiney who was the son of Aideen Magner shared the attached family trees with me. Dr Edward Magner would be my great great grand father therefore.

Yours sincerely,

Morgan
