Lyons/Dennehy Rathcool, Cork
Looking for information about the family of my great grandfather, Jeremiah Lyons, born in Rathcool, Cork in 1843. His parents were Laurence Lyons and Margaret Dennehy. They are in Griffiths Valuation - Laurence, Ellen Kelleher, Timothy Lyons, Mary Lyons and Honoria Herlihy.
I believe Jeremiah had sisters Margaret, Mary and Hannah and a brother John from DNA searches.
But family legend says he was the youngest of seven brothers and I cannot be sure of the others.
Jeremiah migrated to Toowoomba Queensland in 1864 and married Honora Keating from Kilbaha, Clare.
Their daughters were Bridget and Margaret. There sons were Laurence, died at birth, Laurence 2, John, Michael, Stephen, Jeremiah and James.
I have not been able to find Laurence Lyons death notice or grave.
Also any information about Margaret Dennehy would be appreciated.
I am visiting Ireland from Australia, wars permitting, and will be in Killarney from 25th to 28th May in a party of four. We would love to meet the locals and take in the heritage of Kerry and West Cork, including Millstreet, Rathcool and surrounds.
My DNA is not much help as only one of Jeremiah's sons, my grandfather James, had grandchildren who might take a DNA test.
My grandfather James Lyons became famous, and sometimes infamous by becoming a traditional healer based on being the seventh son of a seventh son. He travelled over much of this country in that profession.
