Looking for location where family is from

My Grandfather's parents immigrated to the United States and went through Ellis Island. They lived in New York. I know that we have family in Ireland still but have never had any connection to them. My great grandparents changed their last name to Bryan once they reached here, I don't know if that would be relevant. I know the family before my great grandparents owned land near the O'Bryan castle.

Hi Jeanni,

There are a few O'Brien castles so not sure which one you mean.

There is a whole O'Brien clan which has contacts and a lot of information (just google)

If you can pinpoint the name of the parish the land they owned was in you could check on Griffiths Valuation (free search) and the 1901 and 1911 censuses for details of families there.

You could also check the Irish phone book for O'Briens still living in that parish and wirte to them to see what they know.

Hope this hepls

It's fascinating to learn about your family's history and the connection to Ireland - my location. Discovering your ancestral roots can be a meaningful journey. Exploring the land near the O'Bryan castle could potentially provide valuable insights into your family's origins. Have you considered reaching out to local genealogy resources or online platforms to further explore your family's history? It might help you uncover more about your location of origin.
