Looking for information/ relatives of Delia Lydon O'Toole

I am looking for information about my grandmother Delia Lydon O"Toole who was born in 1899 in Spiddal and moved to the United States around 1915. I believe she lived in Baltimore, MD and then moved to Pittsburgh, PA where she married my grandfather Henry Joseph O'Toole, originally from Oughterard. I would appreciate any information about her or any relatives still in Spiddal.

Thank you Danelle O'Toole Nelson

Thank you so much for your help.  My son-in-law will be in Ireland at the end of the month and wanted to visit the home of the namesake of his son.  I can't begin to thank you enough.  God bless you.

Hi--

I believe that Delia was my husband's Grandmother's sister. Her name as Mary Lydon Wallace and my husband told me that Mary and Delia used to call ech other and speak in Gaelic. Mary had a younger brother John, who lived with them on the Northside of Pittsburgh for a while. I think he died fairly young, tho'.

The family lived in a place called KIlroe East in Spiddal, Galway. I found a census listing their home as a two room stone building with a thatch roof. If I remeber correctly, there were eleven people living in the house in the late part of the 19th century. My husband's brother traveled there two years ago but wasn't able to find any graves, etc.

I have Mary's birth certificate and it lists Daniel Thomas Lydson as her father and Margaret Flaherty as her mother. In additional to Delia, Mary and John, there was Honor, Patrick, Bridget, Coleman, Daniel, Elizabeth and Patrick. I know Mary emigrated in 1907 and worked for a family on the Northside. I m not sure, but I think she came over and lived with a brother who had emigated earlier. It could have been Patrick.

If you log onto google maps you can see most of te town of Kilroe East, and there's not much. I've never seen so many rocks in my life. Don't know how they farmed...

Let me know if this lines up with what you had.

Thanks,

H.L. Wallace

I will be searching for my two times great grandparents, Patrick and Bridget Mannion (Manyon) O'Toole. My great grandmother was Catherine O'Toole Geehan (c.1837-1869). Her siblings who came to America via Boston were James, Thomas, and Mary O'Toole. They all left the Boston area and eventually ended up in California (Thomas), Kansas (James and Mary), and Minnesota (Catherine and her husband Patrick J Geehan from Dranagh, Carlow). From family records, we have their parents as Patrick and Bridget Mannion O'Toole, perhaps from Lettermore Island. I had my DNA done through ancestry.com, and a woman from Boston contacted me saying we matched up as 4-6 cousins on the O'Toole side. Her ancestors were O'Toole- Cloherty families from Lettermore. I have lots of records from the United States on all of the O'Toole siblings, but nothing concrete from Ireland. We are coming as a family to Ireland July 1-21 doing a heritage tour of our own, so I am hoping to narrow down the places to visit. The family lore was that the O'Tooles were from Connemara and the Mannions and Burkes were from inland Galway.

Thanks for any help. Karen Hansen Helland

Hello HL Wallace,

This is a very late response to your letter - a year late!   I am the granddaughter of Delia Lydon O'Toole and I have very distinct memories of being in the Wallace home and watching my grandmother and her sister play the accordian and dance the jig :).  But obvioiusly we have lost track of you all.  My siblings still live in the Pittsburgh area but I live in Atlanta.  My husband and I will be going to Ireland in October so I am in earnest trying to find out info.  Interestingly I found the census that listed Delia Lydon with an older sister Mary and others but the parents are Martin and Mary.  But I would imagine that your information is correct as you have the birth certificate.  The address of these Lydons was house 3 in Forramoyle, West (Barna, Galway).  I also have a few pictures that my grandmother labeled with brother John and one with her with Mrs. Patrick O'Toole. .

To anyone else reading this I am also looking for information about my grandfather Henry Joseph O'Toole who was born in Oughtergard., I believe on 12/8/1896. The census states that his parents are Patrick and Mary, but Ancestry has his parents as Edmond and Honor so I am confused :).  He and my grandmother lived in North Braddock, PA (PIttsburgh area). Any information that anyone has would be appreciated!!

Thanks,

Danelle O'Toole Nelson

Is the information about the parents on Ancestry on a family tree? If so, I would ask the owner of the tree what proof they have. Sometimes information on trees is wrong. If you have the right family in the census, I'd be inclined to rely on it before a tree.

Thank you - I will look into it.

Hi all

So my inlaws are the O'Toole from Inverin (next to Spiddal). On the same road is Mary Lydon's who passed recently. Her mother was also called Mary I believe.

However, I am looking for help with my husband's grandfather: Sean O'Toole. He married Sarah Lydon. I cannot find anything about his or her parents. I am sure it is out there but cannot figure it out.

Fun fact though for all the Lydons out there. We do believe that Sarah Lydon's sister was Nial Horan's (from One Direction) Great Grandmother

Any help about Sean O'Toole and Sarah Lydon from Inverin would be amazing!

Hey I am married to Sean and Sarah's grand child :) They had a son Coleman O'Toole (d. 1984) who married Kathleen Carr from Moycullen. She still lives in Inverin. Fun fact though for all the Lydons out there. We do believe that Sarah Lydon's sister was Nial Horan's (from One Direction) Great Grandmother > Also that's correct :) Coleman O'Toole was also cousin with the actor Peter O'Toole but not sure how far removed. Also looking into Sean's parents
