Looking for info on Devans, Roycroft, Seberry Family Lines

Kate Devans was born in Ireland about 1818 and eventually married Edward Roycroft, born in Ireland about 1825. They lived in Sligo eventually. I haven't been able to find birth information on either of them, or thier parents names. In 1866 their son Charles Roycroft born about 1846 married Eliza[beth] Seberry born about 1841 and I believe the marriage took place in Cloonclare, Manorhamilton which seems to be where the Seberry family lived. Eliza was the daughter of Henry Seberry and Anne. We dont know her last name but there has been speculation it could have been "Feathers. " Any information helping me trace further back would be so very appreciated!

There is very little information available on your family before the 1866 marriage. The marriage record shows that Edward Roycroft lived in Kilcullaw Co. Sligo. I went back to the 1858 Griffiths Valuation and found an Edward Roycroft in Kinkillew townland in Ballynakill ciivl parish which is the parish just south of Ballysumaghan parish. Possibly this is the father of Charles. Did Charles and Eliza stay in Ireland?  I found this family in the 1901 census and wondered if this was the correct family  http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Sligo/Ballynakill/Tunnagh/1682922/

I really appreciate your help as I am at a total roadblock here, but am feeling passionate about unearthing my family's Irish past.  We have Charles & Eliza moving to Scotland (they are on the Scotland 1881 census) and having most of their children there, eventually coming to the US. Charles arrived  in Sept 1886 and was naturalized in 1889. Seems Eliza come over in 1887. So that 1901 census is perplexing, the ages of Eliza and Edward are within 5 or so years of their birth dates I have, but I don't know about a daughter names Sarah. My info shows they should have been in the US at that time. I have basically nothing on Edward Roycoft Sr. or his wife ate Devans.

PS also it seems that a daughter of Edward and Kate, who never married, Ellen, in 1916,wrote to the government through the vicar at Ballysumahan to enquire of her age during the 1851 census. They responded that she was 2 months and living in Kinkillew.

Likely the 1901 census was for another Eliza Roycroft who married into the Roycroft family in Tunnagh.

I see you have posted in Ballynakill parish on the message board. I will affix this message to that thread as background.

Roger, thanks so much! I did post there hoping for help, however I really think the family was members on the Ballysumaghan parish as there are other events recorded there.

Hi Jenn

Pretty confident that the Edward Roycroft you seek was living in the townland of Rusheen in 1824 (see Tithe Applotment Records for "Rusheenfin") which is an adjoining townland to Kinkillew.

A Thomas Roycroft (aka Raycroft aka Reacraft) is also there. 

In 1858, you'll find him listed in Griffith's Valuation as Edward Roycraft at #5a Kinkillew with a farm of 17 and a half acres.  

In 1901, Henrietta Roycroft (b. 1855) is still present living with her sister Ellen who married John Rutledge. 

You can also look to the Roycrofts of Tunnagh for leads (or living relatives) as it is very close to Kinkillew as well.
