Looking for Win Roddy - hopeful for mini family reunion in Ireland

Hi,

My name is Terese Geraghty and my mom is Diane Geraghty (nee Conoboy). Her cousin, Win Roddy lived with my mom and her family in Chicago in the 1950/60s. My grandma is Mary Catherine Conoboy (nee Frawley) and Win Roddy is her first cousin (connection through Winifred Kneafsey & Martin Mullen lineage). Win Roddy was born in County Mayo, lived in Chicago, and also lived in Leeds, UK where her family lived in the early 2000s. My family and I are visiting Ireland at the end of June and are hoping to find her if she is living in Ireland? If anyone knows if she is living in Ireland, the UK, or knows her whereabouts, we would be so grateful for the help in finding her. Please reach out if you have any questions.

Thanks so much!

Best,

Terese

Terese:

I don't believe we will be able to assist you. We don't permit our volunteers to search for living individuals in Ireland because of privacy concerns.

According to MacLysaght's Surnames of Ireland, the Roddy (or Ruddy) surname originated in what is now County Leitrim, particularly in the area around Fenagh (in the center of that county), but it is now massively more common in the northeastern corner of County Mayo (where I have distant Roddy relatives myself), as shown in Grenham's database of surnames at this link:

This may be the result of migration to that area in Cromwellian times.
