Looking for Hanifin Farm in Milltown, near Dingle

My great grandfather Timothy F Hanifan (could be spelled differently) was born in Milltown, July 18, 1868. His parents according to marriage records I’ve found in the US were Timothy Hanifin and Mary (maiden name Grady). He had a brother John who also emigrated to the US. I believe John’s dob is: Narch 20, 1866. There was another brother Patrick who I believe stated in Ireland. In April 1976, National Geographic’s magazine did a story about Dingle. The article included a farmer named John Hanifin. His wife’s name was Nellie. I was told by family here in Massachusetts the he was a relative. I am trying to find that farm. I’m coming to Ireland in May with my family and am hoping to find that farm and maybe meet some family.

Below are photos from the magazine article. Thanks

I searched and reviewed all Hanifin (sp) civil birth records from 1864-1875 in the Killarney registration district and found the records for John and Thade (Timothy). The family lived in the townland of Farranmanagh in Kilcolman civil parish. The maiden name for the mother was shown as Gready on both records.

John Hanafin fifth record at the link https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/birth_returns/births_1866/03535/2301299.pdf

Thade Hannafin see ninth record at the link https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/birth_returns/births_1868/03424/2256491.pdf

Possibly Patrick was born before 1864 when civil registration started. Baptismal records are not available online for Milltown after 1856.

Regarding the National Geographic article, Milltown is not real close to Dingle.

Please complete our Meet and Greet form. https://irelandxo.com/meet-and-greet Thanks!

Kellip,

I concur with Roger, that your family is not from the RC parish of Dingle, but rather the RC parish of Milltown which is the civil parish of Kilcolman. It can be confusing because there are three townlands named Milltown in the county of Kerry, and one of them is in the civil parish of Dingle. As Roger stated, your family is from the townland of Farranmanagh.

The Griffith's Valuation (1853) shows four Hanifin tenants in Farranmanagh - John, Margaret, Cornelius, and Timothy.

Regards,

Carolyn

Thank you both so much. I have completed the Meet & Greet form with all the information I have found so far. I’m hoping I can connect with someone when I come to Ireland in May.
