Looking for Cassidy relatives maybe in Drogheda

I have no info about the parents or siblings of my 3rd great grandmother, Catherine Cassidy, of Ireland.  I would be grateful for any insight.  Thank you in advance!!

I have no clear birthdate for her, though sources suggest 1818-1824.

Catherine married Pierre Pellerin (aka Peter Pelroy) on 10 July 1847 in Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa, United States

Died 26 November 1875 in Jefferson, Union, South Dakota, United States

No clear birthplace, though I suspect Drogheda in county meath or louth based on conversations with others.

I also suspect that she settled alongside her sister (or perhaps cousin) when arriving in Dubuque Iowa as they lived together in US Census 1860. Sister = Bridget Lannon, married in Ireland to John Lannon. Bridget's death certificate lists her father's surname as Cassidy and mother's surname Kent.

I cannot nail down an immigration record.

Please see familysearch.org for more info. Her ID is LTZQ-WGY.

Hello Stephanie

A copy of Michael's original baptism record, from the National Library of Ireland, shows that his godmother was Mary Hammond. No godfather is recorded.

You can access the Drumconrath Catholic Parish baptism register at the following link from the National Library of Ireland: https://tinyurl.com/8pyf4pkk

There are two facing pages to the register. Michael's baptism is on the right-hand page, 4th baptism down from the top.

You'll have to enlarge the page to get a better view of the baptism.

I didn't find the baptisms of any more children of James Cassidy and Catherine Kent, nor did I locate a marriage record for James or Catherine.

But, I did find a James Cassidy recorded in an Irish agricultural land record called the Tithe Applotment Books at the National Archives of Ireland website, which shows that he was a farmer in the townland of Ballyhoe, Civil Parish of Drumcondra, County Meath. This record is from the year 1830.

A copy of the original Tithe Applotment Book entry for the townland of Ballyhoe can be accessed at: https://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/reels/tab//004587433/004587433_00704.pdf

The entry for James Cassidy is number 145 on the page.

You can search the Tithe Applotment Books at: https://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp

Based on the information you provided to the Ireland Reaching Out Message Board, I located the Drumconrath Catholic Parish marriage record for John "Lanen" and Bridget "Casedy" at the FMP website.

They were married in February of 1844, but the transcription does not give a day in February when the marriage took place.

See the FMP transcription below:

First name(s) John

Last name Lanen

Marriage year 1844

Marriage date ? Feb 1844

Parish Drumconrath

Alternative parish names Drumcondrath, Drumconra, Loughbracken

County Meath

Diocese Meath

Country Ireland

Spouse's first name(s) Bridget

Spouse's last name Casedy

A copy of the original marriage record from the National Library of Ireland shows that the witnesses to the marriage were James Carolan, Patrick Mahon and others.

The marriage is the second entry down from the top of the left-hand marriage register page, which you can access at: https://tinyurl.com/58rs887d

Drumcondrath is the spelling of the Catholic Parish. The Civil parish is spelled Drumcondra.

The IreAtlas Townland Data Base shows the names of the towns located in the Civil parish of Drumcondra, including the townland of Ballyhoe: https://tinyurl.com/uvfcmxzx

Circumstantial evidence, based on the Tithe Applotment Books, points to the townland of Ballyhoe, Civil Parish of Drumcondra, as the home of your Cassidy ancestors.

With Kind Regards,

Dave Boylan
