Looking for a location
I am trying to figure out where Corigan, or Corrigan, or Corgan is in Co Louth. My 4th Great Grandfather Laurence McNally was baptized in May 1770, Ballygowan. He died according to a RC Parish Register in Apr 1805, Corrigan. He married Mary Carroll bap Jan 1772 in Mullanstown. Their 4 children were all baptized between 1796 and 1804 in Corgan. Daughter Bridget married (Mullanstown) Peter Sheridan in 1823. Their first 3 children were baptized between 1823 and 1833 in Corgan. The next 2 children were baptized in Blakestown. In Roots Ireland there are 92 records for baptisms between 1782 and 1865 in Corigan/Corrigan/Corgan. There are 8 records for marriages in Corgan and Corrigan between 1795 and 1830.
Where is Corigan? Corrigan? or Corgan? I find nothing in townlands.ie or mention of in Griffiths or the Tithe Applotments. I've looked at historic maps hoping to spot a landmark by one of those names. (I had earlier been looking for White Mountain/s 259 entries between 1763-1900 in Roots Ireland, but not in townlands. I did find this one on a map just south of Smarmore though). I suspect that Corgan is somewhere in the region of Ballygowan, Mullanstown, Blakestown, but I can't pin it down. I would love more precise confirmation if possible.
Thank you, Maureen
