Looking for family background

I have discovered that I have relatives from this area way back in the 1840s. The family name is FURY and I am looking particularly for a MARTIN FURY born around 1820 and who married MARIA DOORLY around 1840. A son was born in 1840 on 24th. March baptized John. I believe Martin Fury pased away in 1877 or so. He may have been a tenant of a Mr.Sproule. There are two Martin Fury;s listed in Griffith's Valuation; one in St. Peter parish, the other in Kilglass.I am looking for someone who may have some ideas of where to search for more information. I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and they had an April 24th 1840 baptismal record for John Fury in Strokestown RC parish and also a Michael in 1845. See transcriptions below. I did not find a marriage record so likely the marriage occurred in a parish that does not have records back to 1839. It is possible that the Griffiths record in Kilglass parish could be your ancestor but I checked www.askaboutireland.ie and the landlord was not Mr. Sproule. 

www.irishgenealogy.ie has the original civil death records online for free starting in 1878. We believe the records for 1864-1877 will be available online later this year. At that time, you can look at the 1877 record to see if it is your ancestor.

Let me know if you have any question. Have you considered DNA testing?

Hi Roger. Firstly thank you for responding to my request and secondly thank you for making efforts on my behalf to find evidence of Martin Fury. I have some information that suggests Martin came from 'Athlone' so I am assuming that the Martin Fury mentioned in Griffith's is the one from St. James not the one from Kilglass. Do I understand correctly  that Maria Doorly would have been married most likely but just the record cannot be found? I believe that Martin is listed elsewhere as of the catholic faith and would expect that there should be a record within the archives for a local church. I did find a register of gravestones but cannot find any mention of the names either Doorly or Fury but I believe what I was searching on was for Church of Ireland that, I assume, would not be where catholics would be buried - or am I wrong? I am intrigued too by the sponsors of John being Kellys whereas for Michael it is Doorlys. Do you have any thoughts on this? The John I have data on married an Esther Pain (said to be from Roscommon) and registered a birth of Albert Edward in Fermoy registered as living in Cork Barracks being stated to be a gunner in the RA. Further issue for this couple are listed as born in East Indies with the last two being born in Woolwich, south east London that is still the home of the Royal Artillery regiment of the British Army.

Regarding the Griffiths, the St. Peter's record would be for Athlone. However, if the family was in Strokestown in 1845, they would have had to move south 46 kilometers to Athlone for Martin to be included in the Griffiths Valuation for St. Peter's parish.

On the sponsors for baptismal records, sometimes a couple would invite good friends to be baptismal sponsors, other times close relatives.

For the marriage record, Strokestown has records available in 1830 so since I can't find a record, my presumption that Maria was from a nearby parish which no longer has records back to the pre-1840 era. Two of the nearby parishes have reocrds starting in the 1860s.
