Looking for Bridget O'Malley Family Roots in Galway
Hello IrelandXO,
I am looking for information on my grandmother, Bridget OMalley, born January 25, 1894 (or 1892) in Galway, Ireland. I was told that John OMalley (Bridget's father) was secretary of the Land League" in their area. Her siblings were named James (1890), Ellen (1893 Ellie), Michael (1895), Patrick (1897), and Elizabeth (after 1901 Lizzie). They were Roman Catholic.
With my grandmothers name and date of birth, I found in the 1901 census for a Bridget Malia and the head of household is John Malia, who signed the census John OMalley. The name change is very confusing to me. I'm not sure if this is the right family.Records of family birthsare supossedly at Kilbegnet Catholic Church in Creggs, County Galway. Does anyone know how I can view or get copies of those records?
My grandmother emigrated to Canada(perhaps at age 16 via England)and later joined her brothers Patrick and Michael in Chicago, Illinois, USA.In 1958 my grandmother visited Ireland again. At that time her sister Lizzie and brother James OMalley lived in Currgahreva Creggs, Roscommon, Ireland.I know my family had a farm which was later sold by James OMalley, who then moved to England.
My grandmothers only surviving child, Marguerite, is now 94 and has advanced dementia. I am trying to piece together my Irish heritage. I hope to someday visit Galway and would love to have as much info as possible. I have attached four photos. One is of my grandmather is 1958, also oneas a young girl with her sister Ellie in a horse drawn buggy (Grandma is holding the reins); and twoof her 1958 visit back to Ireland. Also, a note I found by my late cousin Patsy O'Malley Blythabout our history that I can not fully figure out.
I appreciate any help you could provide.
Many thanks,
Diane O.
