Looking for Begley and Lynch Relatives

I'm related to the Begley Clan on my maternal side.  I've learned they come from Killorglin in County Kerry.  Included in this clan are the Oscar-winning actor Ed Begley, Sr. (1901-1970) and his son, Ed Begley, Jr.

Hello Mark,

Can you provide a little more information?

Which Begley (first name) married which Lynch (first name). Do you know the year your Begley ancestor was born and the year your Lynch ancestor was born? Were they both born in Ireland? What were the names of their parents, especially the maiden names of their mothers?

Did your Begley and Lynch ancestors marry in Ireland or the U.S?

Thank you,

Dave Boylan

James J. Bagley was born in Killorglin, County Kerry, Ireland, in June of 1862, to Michael (1832-1936) and Margaret (McCrohan) Begley (1838-1934). He emigrated to Connecticut in 1879, and married Margaret Lynch (1864-c. 1939) in 1884.

Although he was born with the surname, Begley, for unknown reasons, possibly at the time he entered the U.S., James Begley's surname was changed to Bagley. He and all his descendants used the name Bagley, while the rest of his extended family, including many who emigrated to the U.S., continued to use the name Begley.

Oscar-winning American actor Ed Begley, Sr. (1901-1970), was James Bagley's nephew.

James and Margaret Bagley lived in Waterbury and New Haven, CT, and later in Boston. They had eight children: five daughters - Jane "Jennie" (1886-1966); Mary Katherine "Katie" (1888-1971), Catherine (b.1893), Margaret (1895-1974) and Gertrude (1898-1909); and three sons - James (1892-1937), Joseph (1901-1978) and Francis "Bunny" (1903-1980).

Mr. Bagley worked in the construction business (as a stone mason), and moved his family to Boston sometime around 1900, in search of work. He was employed with a number of construction projects around the city, including the famous Little Building, at the corner of Tremont and Boylston Streets, which was built in 1917.

James Bagley died suddenly, on June 7, 1918, in Miami, FL, at age 56. He was preceded in death by daughter, Gertrude, and was survived by his wife and remaining seven children.

My mother was a Begley.  They lived in Croom Limerick.  The family still live there. There were 2 Begley clans originally in Croom.  Hope this helps or doesn't make it more confusing 🙋🙄
