Looking for any info for Tallon Family

Hello,

I am looking to find where in Ireland my ancestors are from. James Tallon married Minerva Williams and had several children, one of which was John R Tallon who was born in 1860. He married Julia Loyst. John died in 1925. At some point the family emigrated to Ontario, Canada.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Terri,

There are some public member trees on ancestry (Byron, Bain & Thompson) which have the birth of James Tallon as 1 Nov 1837 in Lennox Canada. Married Catherine Minerva Williams 7 Aug 1877 Ontario and died 20 Oct 1907 Deloraine Manitoba.

James's parents were John Tallon born 1800 and Catherine Rose 1815 both born in Ireland.

The closest match I could get on www.rootsireland.ie for John Tallon born 1800 was 1801 in Louth.

The closest for Catherine Rose was 1809 Dublin & 1821 Limerick.

I couldn't find a marriage record in Ireland or Canada for them.

Maybe you could follow up with the tree owners on ancestry and find where they got the records of the births and marriages - particularly the irish ones as no sources are cited.

I'm searching for any information about my Great Grandfather Francis Tallon's family from Co. Louth, Ireland.

Francis was born in 1804, he and Rosetta (Rosa) Plunkett had 6 boys. They emigrated to Canada in 1834 or 1844. The only one who survived the trip to Canada were John, Thomas and James, as well as their mother Rosetta. Francis and 3 sons died of the 2nd Cholera and were buried at sea.

Francis's family were Protestant whereas Rosetta's Catholic so both their families opposed their marriage. Francis's father was Lord or Sir R. Tallon, a wealthy landlord, some relatives later referred to it as the famous old "Tallon Estate". One letter I have, written in 1926 by my own great grandfather Eddington, son of Thomas, says "My grandfather lived in a mansion with Irish Lord in connection with property at Tallons Corner County of Louth". Louth Hall was formerly named Tallanstown, it's not known though if this was connected to my family. Rosetta Plunkett is said to be from Dunsany Castle, so entitled herself.

Over the years the surname became Tallen in Canada. They settled in Frontenac County, Ontario, just north of the city of Kingston. Some were in Camden Township, some in Lennox & Addington, Bedford, Hinchinbrooke and Portland over the years. I grew up in Verona, Ontario, smack dab in the middle of these townships, in Frontenac County. James Tallon went west and settled in Deloraine, Manitoba, where he resided all his life and raised a family. Rosetta remarried and is apparently buried in Napanee, Ontario. John may have settled in Kingston. I have a letter from his son Frank written in 1952, from 26 Regent St., Kingston, Ontario. I can be reached at slate@storm.ca.      Paula Brown

Hello,

It's been a long time since I posted. Thanks to those who replied. They are very helpful. If anyone is still active here and has found any other information it would be great to hear. I am traveling to Ireland in April/May and am hoping to see some parts of Ireland where the Tallon's walked and perhaps still do.

Hoping you are all well,

Terri
