Long / Cormack

KilkennyDunnamaggan (Kilkenny)

Hi, I've just started on our family search and a little stuck at the family history from Dunnamaggin on. Andrew Long was married to Bridget Cormack in Dunnamaggin June 9th 1864. I believe Andrew's fathers name was John and Bridget's father was Edward - both fathers deceased at that time. Family were farmers living in Haggert according to the marriage certificate. I am trying to get any information on John and any other details of the Longs in Dunnamaggin. (also there is a burial record of Andrew Long 1927 in St. Peter's Ennisnag. This appears to be a church of Ireland cemetery. Is that possible if Andrew and Bridget were RC? )

thanks for any help

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and found a March 24 1836 baptismal record in Dunnamaggan for an Andrew Long with father John Long and mother Mary Dunn. They lived in Haggard. He had a brother Michael baptized May 19 1832 and a sister Anne baptized September 17 1838. The parents were married in Danesfort RC parish on February 13 1831. Mary was from Viper which could be Burnchurch Viper in Burnchurch civil parish..

See sixth record for the death record for Bridget in 1906

Dunnamaggan baptismal records start in 1826 so there won't be a record for John Long if he was baptized in that parish.

I did not locate the civil death record for Andrew. It would not be unusual to have a RC person buried in a Church of Ireland cemetery.

Noelle, thanks a mill for your help here. It gets confusing when the names are recycled in each generation :) That last record is super helpful as it shows John Long present  at the birth of Andrew jnr which could be brother or grandfather. If possible a photo of the grave would be fantastic if you live there as I now live in the US.
