Location of Silverstream estate

I have an Ancestor George Hodgins (1760-1820) who lived in Cloghjordan Tipperary.

He is refered to as George of Silverstream. His family later moved to Terryglass.

I am trying to locate exactly where this estate was.

Thanks

Bob,

I am not sure where the estate was but there was a Silver Stream in the Cloughjordan area. Perhaps you can contact one of the organizations listed below.

9 years ago today, the footbridge over The Silver Stream was finished and boardwalk access to the new restoration site opened up….👍

Running along two sides of the bog, The Silver Stream is a small, historically drained Irish peatland stream rising in a set of Springs by the Old Birr Road. It is a headwater tributary of the Ballyfinboy River which drains into Lough Derg.

Signs of Pine Martin (An Cat Crann) Otter (Madra Uisce) activity and our only native white-clawed crayfish have been recorded along the Silver Stream system. The White-clawed Crayfish (Gliomach Fionnuisce - blonde water lobster) is considered a globally threatened species and Ireland holds one of the largest surviving populations. Unfortunately today, whole populations of the white-clawed crayfish are being wiped out by a plague carried by the introduced American signal crayfish.

The Silver Stream features in The Night Hunt poem by Thomás MacDonagh.....

`On the white bog road and out

Over Barna Park full pace,

Over to the Silver Stream,

Horse and dog in happy race,

Rider between thought and dream`.

The new Loop of Laghile and Loughaun National Loop Walk crosses The Silver Stream twice along its way.
