Lantry - James (Kings Co)

Hi, trying to find - info re: James Lantry who married Bridget Killeen around 1770/80s.

They had sons Thomas, James, Patrick (b 1795), Michael - but all we know is the son Patrick, he married Bridget Donoghue around 1820. Any help with this family would be great. It's believed that either James (their father), or his father was orginally from Cork - they had their family in Kings County.

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find any records for James Lantry and Bidget Killeen and their children. I did not find a marriage record for Patrick Lantry and Bridget Donoghue. I did find two baptismal records which may be for their youngest children

Hi Roger;  Thank you for this info, and thank you for the welcome.

It certainly is strange, that no other records exist.   Would it be a case of,  some records were never released from the Church?  As I have heard this once, that some records didn't stand the test of time, while others may not have been copied at all for research.   The way it looks at the moment, we are at a stand still,  however, grateful for the info that are available to be researched.

Once gain - thank you   Jay

There are a number of explanations for lack of records. Some parishes did not retain the records for various reasons. Local church fires wiped out some records. Priests or parish clerks lost records particular during a transion from one parish priest to another. Most of my ancestors parishes in Mayo do not have records until around 1850.

The parish where I found the two records (Banagher) actually has reocrds back to 1811 https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0149  but it appears your ancestors moved into the parish right before 1840

Hi, I would guess you are part of the Lantry family from Cork that I belong to. My great-great grandmother was Catherine Lantry, daughter of Thomas Lantry from west Cork, who immigrated to the US in the early 1800s. We can trace these Lantrys back to Cork in the 1700s, when they married several O'Leary women in successive generations. Sadly, they came over with Cromwell, stayed, and some even converted to the Catholic religion. I can refer you to a public tree on Ancestry.com if you are subscribed. I'm in touch with several Lantry cousins, quite distant ones though.
