Kirby- Bruff Ireland

Hello,

I have found where I am from which is bruff Ireland.

I am having trouble now tracing back down to see if i have any living relatives in Ireland.

Here is the tree of what I have right now

Daniel Kirby married Ann Odonnell

son- Daniel Kirby 1790 married to Margaret Keeffe 1790

The years for the kids are baptismal dates

They had Ann Kirby 1819, Johanna Kirby 1820, Daniel Kirby 1824, who married Margaret Barry, Joseph Kirby 1826, Mary Kirby 1828, Margaret kirby 1830, Catherine Kirby 1833, John Kirby 1835, and Edward Kirby 1843 who Married Maria kirby

I know the line of Edward Kirby because that is the line that ends with me.

I would like to know if any of the other kids had children besides Edward.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Hi Sean
Bruff is not my primary parish but I have been having a look at this.  The children were being born around the time the Tithe Applotments were being compiled and the only Daniel Kirby showing up for Bruff at that time was in the townland of Ballyreesode.  Griffith's Valuation of 1851 also has Daniel Kirby in that townland.

As far as I can see Daniel re-married in 1849 to Margaret Barry who reported his death in 1864.  She herself died in 1880 and her address is given as Ballyreesode.

i have images of the land records for my own area but unfortunately I do not have readily available land records for Bruff area.  They would show who owned the land at Ballyreesode after 1850 right up to about 1970.  Land normally stayed within the family and they might give you a very good indication of who inherited Daniel's holding after 1851 and point you to your living relatives.  The Valuation Office, Abbey Street, Dublin holds these records so if you have any plans to visith Dublin you should probably include a visit there.

I can't find any Kirbys in Ballyreesode in the 1901 census which is disappointing.  It is of course possible that a female member of the family inherited the holding.

Regards
Tim

Sean:

Glad that Tim provided comments. I did e-mail our HQ a few days ago asking them to followup with our Bruff PL.

Sean, did you make any progress?  Since your message was 2017 and this reply is 2021, you've probably found out more.

I'd like to flag the attached info about the early Kirbys in Bruff that you may find useful - Kirbys found in the early Bruff parish registers up to 1820, by another researcher. I see that it mentions some of your ancestors.  https://boydhouse.com/alice/Carey/Kirby%20Ancestors.html

Cheers,

Joan
