Kilmartin/Gilmartin and Lynch

Hi Roger,

many thanks for your information, sorry for the delay in coming back to you. My mother's family moved from Co Sligo to Duleek, Co Meath in march 1940 as part of a scheme run by the Irish Land Commission. This organisation acquired large amounts of high quality farming land in County Meath and parcels of land of around 20 acres, a house and a barn for animals was offered to rural families from the west. As I understand it the aims were to bring Irish speakers to the east of the country, whilst giving them the opportunity to create a more viable life for the whole family whilst dividing the land relinquished in the west to those who remained to give them a better chance of eking out a living. Do you know anything about this scheme and whether the names of other families who moved from Achonry Parish are available?

many thanks in anticipation

Hi Roger,

once again many thanks for the links relating to the relocation of families from the West to Co Meath by the Irish Lnad Commission. One of the links 'louisburgh-killeen heritage' was of particular interest. Only today I was talking to the wife of one of my cousin who lives on Sneogue, Duleek and she mentioned a member of the Nee family who also lives on Sneogue. Both the family and the address featured in the article in question.

Once again many thanks for your help.

Steve

On 2 february 1919 my grand father, John Walsh, together with Nicholas Lynch, Michael  Brennan and Martin Dunne appeared before Sligo Petty Sessions charged with unlawful behaviour in Coolrawer among a crowd of 25 others. Michael Brennan a annd John Walsh were found guilty and sentenced to 14 days and 7 days, each with hard labour. Is ot possible to establish the circumstances giving rise to to the unlawful behaviour?
