Kelly/Mahon & Kelly/Fox Westmeath/Longford

Trying to find family of John KELLY born 1835ish Parish of Templepatrick, in or near Moyvore, Westmeath, according to 41st Welch Regiment discharge documents in 1856.
He came to Australia 4 July 1861 on ship Lincelles with wife Ann and two sons Francis and John. I have loads of info from here onwards. I am trying to find pre-1861 info - the only thing I have being his discharge docs on 6 Oct 1856 on FindmyPast.
According to verbal family history (several online trees agree...):
1)his parents were Michael KELLY and Catherine MAHON
2) he enlisted 25 Mar 1854 when next of Kin were sister Aleise Kelly of Forgney, Co Longford, and cousin Mary Kelly of Ballincora, Thyrone, Co Westmeath
3) he married 10 June 1857 to Ann FOX
4) son Francis born 15 April 1858
5) son John born 14 Jan 1860
6) sister Aleise married a man (?Reynolds) and went to live in Canada
I would like to find proof of these last 6 points...or anything related to the family in Ireland.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I assume John Kelly was RC.

Moyvore RC parish records start in September 1831. Here is a link to the register http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0954

Roots Ireland did not have a John Kelly baptismal record in Co. Westmeath with father Michael and mother with surname Mahon.

I also could not find a John Kelly marriage to someone with the surname Fox in either Westmeath or Longford. Where did they marry and where were the children born?

Hi Roger,

thanks for your reply.

Yes John Kelly was RC.

I do not have any further info about places.

I have checked the Moyvore records...

Something must be wrong I think...but the parents must have been dead by 1854 as his next of kin was a sister and a cousin.

The source of his parents names was his death cerificate, so that would have been second hand information at best.

Thanks,

Sharon

Sharon:

I expanded my searches on Roots Ireland to cover all of Ireland but could not find any records.

Thanks Roger.

I have now had contact from a cousin and may have a little more information on the FOX family.

Godparents of one of their sons were recorded as:

Michael, the son of John Cormick and Elizabeth Flynn who were living in Ireland from Coolgavany in County Westmeath

Mary, wife of Thomas Cormick and daughter of William Fox and Ann Cormick, also living in Ireland in Longford.

Hopefully this will help, I am off to look now,

thanks again

Hi Sharon

You have found him darling.  John Kelly and Anna Fox were married in Longford. John and Anna Kelly moved to Australia in the 1860s.  They are my great great grandparents.  What would you like to know?
