Keating and O’Neill family of Galbally Tipperary.

Hi I am researching my husband’s family. John Keating married Mary O’Neill in 1823 in Galbally. They had at least 6 children - Michael, William, John, Johanna, Ellen, Julia. The family immigrated to Victoria Australia.

Many thanks Mary for your reply. Yes, this is the family that I am researching. Many thanks for the dates of birth of the children, and the marriage date of the parents. Is Galbally close by the Tipperary border, or was it at some stage in Tipperary, as the family registered their information in Australia as coming from Tipperary?

Hello Tara,

I just came across this query while looking for other messages relating to Galbally.  Hopefully you will see this response as the website's notification system doesn't always work that well.

Galbally is very close to the border with Co. Tipperary so if your husband's ancestors came from Galbally they may very well have been born in Co. Tipperary as some of the surrounding townlands would certainly be in Tipperary.  Also, in civil records you will find that Galbally is recorded under Tipperary as it was part of the Tipperary Poor Law Union, despite the village being in Co. Limerick.
