Hi Jane,
Further things that I have found out - Winifred Touhy 1839, who was the first of Rody and Alices children and who I had reason to believe was linked to me by dna, I found living in Stockport England in 1881 with her daughter Sarah Toohey ( so maybe she was born out of wedlock ) at the home of Bridget Mary Toohey who was her sister. The births of the sisters are recorded as Burnwood Ireland. There is no mention of Bridget Mary's birth that has turned up from James, as there is also no mention of my great grandmother Julia's birth either. I sent away for Bridget Mary's marriage certificate to Edmund Hamer 1881 and it lists her father as Roger Toohey a labourer deceased. I then found a Julia Tovey who married a John Foley and their marriage certificate in 1871 in Macclesfield Cheshire England states her father also as Roger Tovey a labourer deceased . One of the witnesses is her brother Matthew Tovey that James found in the records as born 1851. All signatures signed with a X
My great grandmother remarried after the death of my great grandfather John Foley in 1906 to Barhtolemew Mc Andrew and the marriage certificate states again her father was Roger Tooey. One of the witnesses is Winfred Tooey signed by a X.
On all the censuses that I have found with Julia's age they vary her birth from 1846, 1848, 1849, 1852. On her marriage certificate she is 27 in 1871
Its very confusing with all the variations of the surname Touhy. On the birth certificates of Julia's children the surname is written down as Tue, Tua, Tuey and Julia's mark of a cross.
It's getting very exciting after so many years of knowing nothing, Jill
