JOYCE/CUSICK.
My search is connecting my DNA to JOYCE, County Mayo near lough Mask. Several tiny Villages. Ballyovey, Tourmakeady.
What I know from US death certificates and US census : is my father's- grand father (my g- g - grgrandJohn Francis JOYCE immigrated from Ireland, (i was told Cork, but this could be where they immigrated embarked, from) about 1855-1860. He was Born 1854. Parents were Edmond Joyce and Mary CUSICK (sp on death cert). He died in Scranton PA 1906. He married in the US, about 1877-78, assumed PA, Johanna SHEEHAN who was born in Susquehanba, PA., her parents were Irish born. They claim Co Clare. John and Johanna had 5 children. 2 girls survived to adulthood. Jessica was my grandmother.
Family is/ was roman Catholic
This area of Mayo was once Galway pre 1878 ish... makes it difficult to pin records..
What I don't know is exactly where John was born..or any siblings. I am finding nothing on him or parents in the DNA area around Toumakeady. .. I can't confirm immigration or naturalization as he was a child when he arrived, assume US. 1870 census in PA is earliest i can find him, and confirm it is him.
i can't confirm Edmond and mary immigrated or find death certif that i can confirm. Though there is a married couple in eastern Pa, Scranton census that may be possible. And a mary joyce death in same area.
I also connect with DNA to Glynsk area.
JOYCE / KEANEY Cliften, Moyous. Glinsk
There is an Edmond on Griffiths 1857 in villages west of Lough mask. Cussick and Lally also show up. There are a couple stories, court records between 1855 and 1861 of these men involved .with the infamous priest Father Lavelle, with disruption, burning, and purgery related to Plunket/ Blousse and Partry Evictions.
