John Murphy born C1839 in Castleconnell Limerick

My great grandfather was born in Castleconnell Limerick. His father was Michael and was a farmer. His mother is recorded as unknown. However this information is from his death certificate in 1914. John emigrated to NZ around 1864 to 1867 and died on 19 May 1914 in Ashburton NZ.

I have a Church Baptism record for John Murphy in Parish/District of St Johns Limerick on 20 Jun 1839.Father Michael Murphy and mother Hanora Howard.

Have no luck in finding further information about his parents or other family.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Roots Ireland had a December 13th 1840 baptismal record in St. Michael church Limerick for an Elizabeth Murphy with father Michael Murphy and mother Hannah Howard. There is also a Denis Murphy baptized on April 15th 1844 in St. John's in Limerick with father Michael Murphy and mother Hanora Murphy. The Denis record looks like the same family but the Elizabeth is suspect but possible. Did not find a marriage record.

Roger, thank you for that. The churches you mention they are in Limerick county? And would they have church records there? Murf.

Hello Murf:  I may have some information about John Murphy from Castleconnell but I also have questions.  Your post says his father was named Michael.  Could his father’s name actually be Patrick?  I am a distant relative of the Murphy clan from Castleconnell and have been trying to properly place your John Muphy, deceased in 1914 in NZ, in the family tree.  John had two sons, James & Mathew who both had families in NZ.  There are dna links from both these branches of Murphy’s In NZ back to the Murphy Clan who presently live in Castleconnell.  My great grandfather

Timothy Murphy is also from Castleconnell and immigrated to Iowa USA in the 1850’s.  Ted crowley Phoenix AZ ted.crowley@hotmail.com

Hello Gents,

Saw this chat and would also like to know more about the Murphys from Castleconnell! I am also tracing the family branches.

I am a descendant of the John Murphy and Anne Roseingrave clan from NZ. Anne Roseingrave was born in 1849 in Gort, Galway, Ireland, and emigrated with her family to NZ in 1860. John Murphy was born in Castleconnell, Limerick in 1839. I am not sure when John emigrated to NZ – but from looking at your comments, he could have gone with either with his whole family or just his brother James around 1864/8? John and Anne may have married around the 1870s, had 10 children and lived in Ashburton, NZ.

Keen to know more about John Murphy of Castleconnell and his parents and ancestors. I am very keen to try and trace back to the time of the Siege of Limmerck during the 1600s

Any information you have would be fantastic.

Kind regards,

Adam

By the way: I also have found some good information on the ancient Murphy Clans and branches from a book called 'The Murphy Family, by Micael Walter Downs'
