Hi I have come to a brick wall looking for information on John Mills a Hosierand his unknown wife. I don't know when they were born but they were both deceased before 1825 astheir son James waseducated in Wilsons Hospital orphanage school Weastmeath andIn 1840 at the age of 15, James Millswas apprenticed to James Campbell a Tailor when they travelled to Australia on board the Crusader (listed as brought out by Govt). The information I have are from the Immigrant passenger list for the Crusader January 1840.

Listed on the form it says: A native of Althone. Son of John a hosier and his wife - both deceased.

State of bodily health, strength and probable usefulness: Very good

Religion: Protestant

Remarks: Read and write ? educated in Wilsons hospital orphanage school Westmeath.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The Church of Ireland records for Athlone are not on Roots Ireland. The records for St. Mary's C of I church in Athlone back to 1768 are available at the Representative Church Library in Dublin. Here is a link which shows the availability of records.

Hey there! Just wondering if there's been any progress or discoveries made in regards to John Mills and his family. I am a direct descendant of James Mills, and recently found out about his father John Mills.
