John Joseph Cox birth record

Thanks for such a quick reply! It never dawned on me that he was born before 1864...that would have made his mother quite young when she gave birth to him. Maybe not young for those times though. I will put my search to rest! You are correct on the death dates of his parents. Those I do have. Yes, I have seen birth dates change...usually to make them younger....with other Irish relations who came to the US. Question....how much "stock" do you put in the Irish naming pattern that was popular until the later 19th century? I'd say it works in this case for the second son named Patrick after Mary's father, who I think is a Patrick Conboy....but that means I'll need to do a new search for John's parents because currently I have a Daniel Cox for Patrick's father where IF they followed the pattern, his father would be a John.

I appreciate your help on this matter...

Thanks again for your thorough research on my ancestor...I am quite impressed. When I posted two other enquiries about different relations to this site last evening, the replies I received were so generic, just telling me to look on other genealogical sites that I have already explored. I am grateful that you "dug deep" on my specific question. That is very helpful!

Hi Roger,

Sorry to bug you again, but what's your opinion of Daniel Cox (1807) and Catherine Fallon (1812) as Patrick's parents? I like them for it because he and his 3 siblings all have birth records with those parents....all born in Lissonuffy, Roscommon. Ballymagrine is place I have for Patrick's death.

Initially, I did not like Daniel for the father due to his Longford birthplace, but then another person who answered me on this site said that the Irish did move around some.

Hello Carolyn,  I found a Marriage Record for Patrick Cox and a Mary Conboy 19th February 1860 Parish District Bornacoola, County Leitrim, Ireland.  Religion Roman Catholic.

Anne Born 2nd August 1875 Strokestown,Roscommon. Patrick Born 20th June 1865 Rooskey,Stokestown,Roscommon. Thomas Born 19th February 1871. Stokestown,Ballymargine.
Catherine Born 27th  September 1868 Rooskey, County Roscommon.    (I didn't find a John Joseph associated with this Family also i don't know the name of their 7th Child). No Daniel either.
Are you sure that Patrick and Mary are Johns Parents??

There was a John Joseph Cox Born 20 April 1865 Paish/District of Killbarry/Scramoge, Roscommon.  John Cox Mother Mary Careton. Sponcors Patrick Sanany and Brigid Kennedy.

Yes, I too have all those birth records for the siblings. No, there is no Daniel in the family. Roger answered me previously and guessed that my great grandfather changed his birth date when he emigrated, and he is likely born prior to the records in 1863 or 64. I too believe that to be true. They are my relations because we have many living Cox relatives in Roscommon that my family members have visited over the years. And, a descendant of one of his sisters, a Joe Cox, is currently helping me with genealogy.
