John E. McCormick, Native of Coleman, Ireland

Hello, I am helping my best friend look for information regarding his great great  grandfather John E. McCormick. As per his passport he was a Native of Coleman, Ireland. (Unsure as to which Coleman this is as there are several.) The one in Wexford would be our guess but records as yet do not confirm this. Born April 04, 1853. Migrated to America from Queenstown May,1870 on The City of London.

Thanks in advance.

Mark,

There are two "Colman" townlands in the parish of Colman in County Tipperary - Cashel area.

If John E. was married there should be a record of his parents, likewise his death certificate.

McCoy

Mark,

Civil parish of Colman, Co. Tipperary.

Regards,

McCoy

Mark,

On RootsIreland (paid subscription) there is a John Cormack baptized in Colman, Clerihan Parish, Tipperary, on May 2, 1852. Parents- Patrick Cormack and Anastatia Ryan

Birthdays weren't always celebrated so sometime the exact date/ year aren't known.

As McCoy suggested, if you could provide info on his marriage and death, I can check Ancestry to verify this is your John.

Was John's wife Sarah Flanagan and they lived in Albany, NY?

Mark,

Per a tree on Ancestry, he married Sarah in 1884 and died in 1934 in Albany. I was not able to find records that identify his parents, but you could contact New York State. The tree suggest that he was born in Clonmel, Tipperary. If you look at the map on the link below you will find Colman, Clerihan, and Clonmel aren't too far apart.

If I have identified the correct John, I have found the following siblings- Anastatia 1854, Mary 1857, Johanna 1849, Patrick 1861. There might be more since I found a marriage record for Patrick and Anastatia in 1839 in Powerstown, Tipperary.

Why cool! Yes, John E (1853-1934) was married to Sarah E Flanagan (1857-1911) in Smithville Flats NY as per a family bible written by John E after the fact.

I believe the tree you see was created by my friend John. If so I think he guessed at the location because we knew that there was more than one.

I assume there wasn't a family tree in the Bible. There are over 10 trees on Ancestry with similar info. I was using Louise M. Cumpson's. The censuses show his birth year ranging from 1852-57. I think the John we identified above from Colman, Tipperary might be yours. As I mentioned before you might want to order his marriage record or death certificate which might include parent names. If one of his children's names were Patrick or Anastatia, it might have reinforced.

I found the forms for Albany Death Cert and Syracuse Marriage info request forms and sent them to John.

I will update you asap.

I no longer have an Ancestry subscription myself but I know there used to be a compare tree function and I will direct John to look for that himself.

Thank you both so much!
