Jo,
Aughlish is a townland in the parish of Ballymore (co Armagh). It’s 311 acres of farmland.
In the tithe applotment records for 1830 there was a John Black in Aughlish. (There was another in Mullaghglass). There was also an Edward Black.

In Griffiths Valuation c 1860 there were 2 Black farms in Aughlish. One held by Robert and the other by Edward.

To me that suggests John Black had died pre 1860 and been replaced by Robert, who might be a son. Death registration didn’t start in Ireland till 1864 so if he died before you won’t get a death certificate and unless he has a gravestone, he may be difficult to locate.
Edward (who may be a relation to John) was still around in 1901, aged 100:

His age could make him a brother to John, but that’s just speculation. I note the family were Presbyterian (so probably Scots origins). Were your family also Presbyterian?
Probate of the Will of Edward Black late of Aughlish County Armagh Farmer who died 14 October 1901 granted at Armagh to Francis Jones Farmer.
The above will is on the PRONI wills site. He leaves the farm to his son John. It also mentions a daughter in England.
I can’t find a death for Robert Black but his name was deleted from the Valuation Revision records in 1890 so he may have died around then.
There are about 6 Presbyterian churches in the Ballymore area. Clare has records from 1824, Cremore from 1831, Poyntzpass from 1850, Tandragee 1835 & Tyrone’s Ditches from 1793 with gaps. I don't think any of those records are on-line but there are copies in PRONI in Belfast. If you are unable to go yourself, you could employ a researcher. Researchers in the PRONI area: http://sgni.net
