john alfred seymour bailey

I am looking for the birth record of John Alfred Seymour BAILEY, my grandfather, born possibly Dec 1879 (he was 42y and 6m on the 1921 UK census) he stated his birth place as Cloghan Kings Co. Now Offalley. He was one of 10 children (I can trace most of them) to Thomas Bailey born 1848 in Horseleap and Gertrude Madeline Clarke born 1857/8 in Kinnitty, they married July 12th 1875. I have had no luck in tracing him. He came to the UK and married in London in 1910 . I am visiting Ireland in July 26 and would like to know where he was baptised.

Per RootsIreland (paid subscription) Thomas and Gertrude had twins in 1896 in Longford- George Seymore and Gertrude. Is this the family you are searching?

Yes, This is my great grandfathers family. John Alfred Seymour Bailey joined the British army (or maybe an Irish army) around I would think 1897/8, 3 of his younger brothers went to Canada, two who joined Canadian army are listed as Church of Ireland on the 1921 Canadian census, the other one is still Roman Catholic. I have since found out from an army friend, that it would be easier if the Irish men were listed as Church of Ireland, so the reason I am not Catholic, I guess.

He spent much of his army life in India. He was still in the army in Sept. 1920 when his son George died in Plymouth aged 5, I have his birth/death cert, but can find no grave.

My father was 19 months old, but never remembered him.

John A S Bailey was next on the June 1921 census aged 42y and 6m, so born around Dec 1879 in Cloghan Kings Co Ireland, he was a night watchman, so not at home that night, working with other ex military men. In 1923 he was on electoral roll 108 Manor Place, Lambeth the home my dad grew up in Feb 1926 he dies aged 46yrs.

I had a DNA match with his younger brothers, grandson in Canada several years ago I will be visiting Ireland for a couple of weeks from 3rd July, have some graves to visit.
