Johannah Shea/OsheaB1838 Kilkenny-South Australia
Johanna Maria Shea/Oshea was born 1838/9 in Kilkenny ( father Michael Shea Kilkenny farmer). She arrived in South Australua in 1855 (aged 16) with other Irish servant girls in a ship named the Nashwauk ( Liverpool to Adelaide). The ship sunk just off landing and the girls were rescued by mounted police ( one of whom she married)! A Mary Shea b1833 Kilkenny was also onboard. Both girls had requested passage to Sydney ( indicating they could have had family there)? Johanna was mistranscribed as Judith on the Nashwauk passenger list. She was sent to the German hospital and assigned to farmer Paul Tierzk near Wakefield.
By 1859 Johanna was in Sydney then Bathurst then Rockley and then Mt Victoria NSW where she ran a dairy farm with her 10 children and mounted trooper John Bentley ( whom rescued her from the shipwreck)!
I would like to locate her Townland in Kilkenny!
