I'd like to find out more about my grandfather, James Strathearn Steele. He was born on 23rd February 1898 to Robert Steele and Mary Strathearn from Convoy (Donegal).

Did James stay in Ireland? Per Irishgenealogy (free website) his parents were married Oct. 16, 1889, in Donagmore Parish. They both lived in Convoy. Robert's father's name was Gabriel and Mary's was Thomas. 5919984.pdf
On RootsIreland (paid subscription) I found these records for siblings born in Covoy, Donegal, Stranorlar District- Robert 1890, Ann 1892, Thomas 1894, Catherine 1896, Mary 1897, and Mary 1900.

James appears in the 1901 & 1911 censuses for Convoy along with his widowed mother and his siblings. I note his mother was born in Scotland, so if you intend tracing her back, you'll need Scottish records on the Scotlandspeople site.

The family was Presbyterian. Per Irishgenealogy, 4622374.pdf Robert died in 1900, age 50, of cardiac disease. His marriage record identified his father Gabriel as a farmer and Mary's father Thomas as a framework knitter.

Hi
Online found an account of the marriage which indicates that her father Thomas (deceased) was from Hawick, Scotland, will attach the clipping. As marriage certificate indicates Thomas was a framework knitter appears moved to area for work, Convoy Woollen Mills was a big employer in this area.
Robert died at age 50 on 7/12/1900

Robert baptism certificate is on www.rootsireland.ie where there is a baptism cert for 2/4/1848, it was not required to register baptisms until 1865.

Per the information Marion provided, Robert's parents were Gabriel Steele and Kitty (Catherine) Hughes. They also had the following children Gabriel 1850 and Elizabeth 1853. On RootsIreland a Gabriel Steele died in Burnside, Raphoe in 1872 age 90. Elizabeth Steele witnessed. This might be Robert's, who was born in Burnside, father or a relative. On Robert's marriage record there is no mention that his father was deceased.
Convoy and Burnside are about 3.5 miles apart.

There is a tree on Ancestry.com with James Steele marrying Isla Gertrude Luke, born in Australia, in Australia and dying in Adelaide in 1974.
